Journey to school

Safe, healthy journeys

The school follows the local authority's guidance in supporting healthy journeys to school. As well as safe walking routes, using pedestrian crossings installed when the school was built, we have two large cycle/scooter sheds to facilitate wheeled access by pupils and parents.

We encourage, wherever possible, families to access the school site by walking, cycling or scootering.

In March 2026, a 20mph zone was implemented in the vicinity of the school by CWAC Council, to further improve the safety of the journey to school.

Drop-off zone

The Drop-off Zone, as the name indicates, is for the quick dropping-off of pupils (junior only) who can then access the school playgrounds independently – it is not a place where cars should be left unattended (i.e. parked). If you are the parent/carer of children younger than Year 3, please do not use the zone if transporting them.

If using the zone, please approach it having gone round the internal roundabout, such that your car comes to rest (briefly) facing away from the school building – ignoring this guidance poses a risk when leaving the space against the flow of traffic.

Car park permits

Car Park permits can be applied for if pupils and/or family members have mobility or other issues which require ready access to the school building, either on a temporary or permanent basis. These permits must always be displayed on car dashboards when parking here.

Parking in the area

The nearest parking has been kindly offered by the management of The Rake and Pikel pub, opposite the main school entrance. We are very grateful to them for their kindness.

Couldn't the land near the roundabout be used for parent parking?

This area of hardstanding, where the builders' cabins were sited during the school's construction, was briefly thought a possible location for some additional parking, especially as a dropped kerb and gate were already in place. However, vehicle access to this area would be across one of the two access paths for pedestrians, and has therefore been deemed too dangerous. In addition, it is not CWAC policy to provide parental parking for schools, in an effort both to encourage healthy journeys and to reduce congestion and pollution on and around school sites.

In 2026, an excellent use for this land was found, as the new home of Mrs Inchley's Art Bus.
