School Council

Council 22.JPG

Our school council is a formal group of pupils who act as representatives for their classmates in discussing school issues with the Deputy Head teacher and other school staff. Pupils are elected to represent the views of all pupils and also to improve their school. They help to make decisions about how the school is run and take on projects that support the children’s learning and development, such as organising charity events, representing the school at outside events or ensuring the school is environmentally friendly.

Our school council does a number of things:

  • We meet with Mrs Nicholson present to discuss and sort out problems. These could include school lunches, behaviour or ideas for fundraising events.
  • Members of the school council are responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed upon, such as planning events, creating presentations, or meeting with specific school staff.

It’s a brilliant way of representing and contributing to Pupil Voice in our school.

Helping the Community

At the first School Council Meeting, the pupils decided they wanted to do something to help the community.

They organised a collection of clothing that would be donated to a local charity called Kids Bank.

The School Council met to decide on events for the upcoming half term. They organised our CinN event, deciding to wear spotty, stripey and wacky, in order to celebrate differences.

The Council also held a book sale to raise funds for our new Reading for Pleasure books and areas.

Lunch Hall Rules

Following class meetings regarding lunchtime, the School Council decided to collect ideas from children regarding what the rules of the lunch hall should be. After much discussion, School Council produced a concise list and made posters and an assemebly to share.
