Phonics and Early Reading

At Huntington Community Primary School, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme to teach our children phonics and early reading.  This programme is validated by the Department for Education and draws on the latest research into how children learn best; how to ensure learning stays in children’s long term memory and how best to enable children to apply their learning to become highly competent readers.  

We started to teach the programme from the start of September 2022 and have held information sessions for parents and carers of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.   For those parents and carers unable to attend these meetings, a PowerPoint presentation with an audio recording is available below.
