Phonics and Early Reading

At Huntington Community Primary School, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme to teach our children phonics and early reading. This programme is validated by the Department for Education and draws on the latest research into how children learn best; how to ensure learning stays in children’s long term memory and how best to enable children to apply their learning to become highly competent readers.

Reading for Pleasure
On Friday's (nursery children who do not attend on a Friday will choose one earlier in the week) chidlren will choose a reading for pleasure book. These are books for you to read to your child at home . It would be great to share them as many times as possible over the week as we use our Reading for Pleasure books in our Soft Start morning session too, so over the year, more and more books will become familiar to your child and they will get more out of looking at them and talking about them with their friends.
Please keep your Reading for Pleasure book at home for the week and return it to school in the named plastic book bag the following Friday (or on the latest day of the week your child attends Nursery if not in on a Friday.)
