Maths
Our aim is to help Year 6 pupils be confident and resilient mathematicians, equipped with the knowledge and skills they need for the next stage of their education.
Our approach
We follow Power Maths (White Rose edition), a mastery-based approach that helps every child develop a secure and deep understanding of mathematics. Children are encouraged to explore ideas, explain their thinking, make connections and apply their learning to a range of problems.
How we learn maths

Fluency, reasoning & problem solving
We want children to do more than simply find the correct answer. Throughout our Maths curriculum, pupils are given regular opportunities to:
- develop quick and accurate recall of key facts
- choose efficient methods
- explain and justify their reasoning
- identify patterns and make connections
- solve problems in different contexts
- learn from mistakes and try alternative approaches
Supporting Maths at home
Regular practice of times tables and related division facts is particularly valuable in Year 6. Children can also develop their mathematical confidence through everyday activities involving money, time, measures, cooking and problem solving.
