Homework
Homework Routines
To support their reading, the children will be sent home with 2 texts per week. Every Friday they will take a Little Wandle text that they will have already read 3 times that week within school. The focus of this text is to practise intonation and comprehension. As your child will have read the book many times, they should be confident with this text. The second text they take home is a 'Reading for Pleasure' text, which is not pitched at their ability, so is usually read by their adult first. The focus of this book is to nurture the love of sharing vocabulary-rich stories.
Every Friday your child will be set mathematics homework via MathShed to complete online (login details to follow). They will also bring home their English homework in an exercise book which will include a short writing task, weekly handwriting and weekly spellings; this will need sticking in at home. All these tasks will be linked to the activities that the children have completed in class.
Mathematics and English homework should be handed-in on Tuesdays for teachers to check. Please Note: Mathematics homework that is completed online after Tuesday at 18:00 will show as not completed to the teacher - so please encourage your child to do this on time.
We are aware that everyone is very busy and understand that, on occasion, it may be difficult for your child to complete their homework on time. However, the additional practice that homework provides for your child really does help them to progress and builds confidence. We also want your child to establish a positive homework routine to help them in the future. Homework is never set during school holidays in Key Stage 1, but we encourage you to continue to read with your child during these periods.
