Y6 visit to Tatton Park
Start: 13th Sep 2022 12:00am
During the visit, the land girls, who worked at Tatton during the war, will set the children to work, introduce
them to the animals they will help to look after and sing popular wartime songs in the air raid shelter. Aunt
Mary, who lives in the Farm Cottage, will show the evacuees their new home, discuss rationing and
produce food cooked on a range, as well as talking about household chores and teaching some local and
national history.
Suggested preparations for our visit
• Wear a label with name and address and appropriate 1940s dress.
• Bring a cardboard box (e.g. old shoe box, tied with string) containing an authentic packed lunch (see
possible contents below).
• Do not bring a camera (the staff will make sure we get lots of photos when it’s appropriate)
Some ideas to authenticate our Evacuees’ Day
