Christianity - THE BIBLE Y1/2 KS1 (Spring 2B)

Christianity - Why is the Bible a special book for Christians?

What makes a book “Special”?

What is your favourite book?  Why is this book special?

Perhaps it was read to you before you went to sleep when you were little. Perhaps it is an old book given to you by an adult because it was a favourite of theirs when they were young. Perhaps the book contains a story (or illustrations) that you really like. Perhaps the book was given to you as a Christening present.

Challenge... can you identify the world's best-selling book? Which book do you think sells the most in the whole world?

Why is the bible important to Christians? How does the Bible help Christians with their lives? Why are there many kinds of Bibles?  Is the Bible a sacred text? Can you list all you know about the Bible?

Why do Christians try to live their lives according to teachings in the Bible?

Over the next few weeks we will look at these questions and find out more about the Bible and why it is a special book to Christians.

(Week 2)  What sort of different books are in the Bible?

What does Sacred or 'holy to Christians' mean? What are the two main parts of the Bible?

The Bible consists of the Old Testament (largely concerned with the ancient history of the Jewish people) and the New Testament (covering the life of Jesus and the beginnings of the Church).

What is the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament?  Which is older, the Old Testament or the New Testament?  Which is longer, the Old Testament or the New Testament?

Let's see if any of the questions above can be answered in this clip or even in this one?

(Week 3)   What words of wisdom are there in the Bible?

What other sorts of words guide us? Instructions, rules, caring words. What does it mean to be guided through life? For a Christian the Bible is a guide for their life.

Together let's look at these words:

  • Never try to get back at someone who makes you cry.
  • Worrying about what might happen is a waste of time.
  • If you fight you will get hurt by fighting.
  • You should love people you don’t like and be good to those who are horrible to you.

Can we make up actions for each of those sayings?

Which one can you learn from and make it your guide this week.
